Words of Advice

Advice for ghost hunting

Number 1 - Plan ahead and know where your going. Mapquest it and have your map in your car when you leave to go wherever your going.

Number 2 - Whether your going at day or night, bring an extra pair of batteries for your camera of flash light! Not for something draining the energy, but just in case.

Number 3 - Avoid breaking any serious laws! This should be number 1, but it is almost obvious.  Ok, sometimes in order to do a hunt, your going to have to tresspass a little or go out after hours. Never vandilize or steal anything from where you are simply because, if the cops do catch you, most of the times they will let you off easy with a warning, BUT, if they see your pockets filled with crap and/or know you've been breaking stuff, your in a lot of trouble.  Just don't be stupid.

Number 4 - Be quiet! Even in the day time, some of these places may be private property or whatever. It's best not to attract attention from anywhere else. (Unless you actualy see something freaky)

Number 5 - Park a good distance from where your going and make sure it is ok to park there. The last thing you want is to park somewhere, do a hunt, and comeback to have your car towed away or surrounded by cops (Which I have found out for myself)

Number 6 - When in a building or structure, keep a look out for the outside.  Especially at night. If even a regular guy drives by and sees objects and lights coming from an abandoned place, the cops are most likely to show up.  So always keep on the look out for anybody.

Number 7 - Stay together. Yes splitting up covers more ground in less time, but getting lost sucks, even with walkie-talkies or cell phones (Another experience)

Number 8 - Don't go to Helltown after dark. Trust me.

Number 9 - Just stay cautious about everything you do and everything you have. Basically just use common sense and you will be ok. If you get caught by the cops, stay cool and be respectful. If you act like a @$$hole to them, then I doubt they will let you off the hook. Do what they say and you should be ok.

Number 10 - Have fun. I honestly don't know what else to right. Ten is just a good number to end on. I'm sure there is so much more I could get into detail, but then again I am not the expert ghost hunter.

Unexpected

Our run-ins with unexpected people

Busted by the cops 3 times (2 at Helltown and 1 at Tinkers Creek)

Weird people ran into 4 (Hemlock, Gore Orphanage, Tinkers Creek, The Factory)

Busted! Our stories with the guys in red and blue

The first time we got caught was actually the very first time we went on a hunt. It was me and Gary checking out the house at Helltown in the woods. We were there for maybe 10 minutes just taking pictures of the outside and checking out the car.  We didn't even get close to the house before we noticed a cop pulling up the driveway. And this was in broad daylight.  We weren't going to run or hide because, we knew we wasn't in any trouble. So we approached the car ourselves and well, had a conversation with them! We told them all about it and they knew of course. We said were just there taking pics and just checking it out. We told them we wasn't planning on going insided the house because we didn't want to get in trouble. So, they then told us there own tales of weird noises when the patrolled the area at night. We actually talked to them for quite awhile about ghost hunting. In the end, we took some pics and rolled out of there without any problems. The only thing they said was just don't break into the house or come at night....

Well, a couple years later, we came at night! And man were they right. What sucked most about this time was, I guess the house was demolished! So, we wasted our time heading into the woods looking for it! And again within ten minutes of wandering in the woods, here came the bad guys. The shined the spotlight on all four of us and they knew we were there. No point of running or trying to hide (Which is what we actually tried for a minute, hiding behind a tree before we realized they knew we were there) So, again we approached them cautiosly and slowly and when we got to the road they didn't seem too happy.  The seemep pissed and angry at us.  The took all of our ID's and scanned them in the car. The questioned us and told us about coyotes in the woods (Ok???) Then they gave us the shpeal. They had a giant list of people caught there at night. They told us straight up, if we are caught there again, we will go to jail. So, now our names are on the list and yes, we are not ever going back, even if the house was still there. Not only did we have these guys, but when we got back to our car, there were two more cops that gave us the down-low. But in the end, nothing but warnings and we were simply told to go home.

The other bust was at Tinkers Creek. This one sucked the most. And this is where my personal advice comes from too. There were a lot of us, three cars and we all parked in a tiny area that was the road that lead up to the cemetery.  And one thing I bet that we made the mistake was, we were all very noisy. Everything went great until we were heading back down. Right as we came near our cars, the cops literally jumped out of the bushes with spotlights and told us hands in the air! That was the biggest scare of the night. After we walked to our cars, the interogations began. The did the same old ID thing but this time, the checked all of our cars and that took forever. One cop even dumped out poor Gary's soda he had in his car because it could be "Alcohol" and one of them took my small pocket knife. Well that sucked. After all that, the one cop, I'll say his name was Dick, told us this "Ok guys, you all seem fine. But don't come here anymore at night. Go ahead roam around in the day up there, but tonite, Casper isn't out. Go home." Ohh, what a funny guy!

Benetka Road

All About It...

Out in Ashtabula there are some very well know haunted places such as the story of the Ashtabula train disaster. Well after I visited this place many times now and have heard many stories. This is mostly know within my family and the locals but I thougt of it to be interesting to put on here. Some of the stories are that the area is on an old indian burial ground. While people were building their homes in the area (Which are very few) they noted that while digging they dug up many mysterious bones. They were sure that they were bones of a cow though. My uncle who lives out there, says there is a little native American girl who haunts his home sometimes. He and others have experienced things out there that are unexplainable. In my opinion, I think it is a very spooky place to check out. There are always weird noises in and outside of the house and almost every night a fog goes over the entire lake, except the night I was there. Overall, it's a neat place to do an exploration on.

Our Experience...

November 6th, 2004

We decided to take a look around the place at night and get some pictures and stuff.  We walked around with our camcorder and cameras and took shots all over the place, but never revealed anything great.  We walked deep into the woods and all around the property, only to just have a night walk around.  Although it is always creepy when the fog sets on the pond, there didn't seem to be anything paranormal. Once we went to bed in the house, the usual weird noises were not heard of.  But my uncle and some of his friends insist there is something eerie and unusual that goes on around there.

Our Experience...

July 7th, 2007

When we got to the center off of Broadview road, we noticed something we wasn't really expecting.  And that was a festival going on right outside of the building in the parking lots.  So, taking that in mind and the nearby police station, we were not going to take any chances of sneaking in.  Yeah we wanted to, but we didn't feel like getting into a lot of trouble.  So, we circled the main building in the dark, took pics and stuff. Then we checked out the several other little buildings on the same grounds.  We peaked into a couple windows and seen the insides, but nothing weird or creepy. The biggest scare of the night probably was when we walked up to one window, we seen a skunk come out of the nearby bushes, so we said forget looking in that one. Overall, it was a great place to check out and look around. And were glad we did because now it is gone for good!

Calgary Park

All About It...

Nearly 15 - 20 years ago, there were many things going on around in this little park. It is situated on the west side of Cleveland. The park itself really isn't where the things that happened were, they were more like in the woods of the park. It is a true story that a little girl was kidnapped off a road nearby and supposedly killed in the woods and creek down the hill from the park. The body of the girl was found under one of the railroad tracks nearby the creek (There is a refrence to this somewhere on the internet, I just cant find it now to try to prove it). There was also many dead animals and bones all the time. The reason I know of this place is that I used to live very close by and heard about and seen all this things. Anyway the hauntings vary from one thing to another. Some say the little girl haunts the area, some say that there was an old butcher shop along the creek where they would empty the bones into, others say its haunted by the bums who lived and died there. No one really knows if any of this is true, mainly because no one really ever did an exploration on it. This weekend my friends and I will explore the area and take pictures and do some research on the stuff and see if this place is in fact, haunted.

Our Experience...

November 13th, 2004

Another cold night for a hunt. The hunt itself was a bit spooky once we entered the woods beyond the park.  We had to travel down a steep hill to get to the railroad tracks and from there we took all of our pictures.  At one point, across the bridge, we all seen eyes starrig back at us.  We all stood still and quiet, untill we all jumped when we seen a deer jump out of the bushes and across the tracks! After that little scare, we went to the supposed "Crime Scene" and took some pics.  Near the scene was a lonely statue along a hill.  It was indeed a creepy feeling being around the pond and the orange tape gave an uncomfortable feeling as well.  But, after exploring for nearly an hour, we didn't come across anything good, and it was getting cold so we headed out.

Our Experience...

November 21st, 2004

It was another chilly day for me and Andy, but bordem struck yet again. This time we decided to check out this cemetery.  There really wasn't too much weirdness about it, but it was a pretty secluded and small place.  Alongside one of the hills that lead down to a creek was a lonely wooded cross.  The amulet was very interesting, but nothing unusual happened as we stood around it and checked it out. The supposed witches grave was there indeed, but no weird feelings or anything being by it.  The only unusual thing that happened, was when I uploaded my photos, I noticed there was a slight blurryness to the photos of the Witches grave, which seemed really odd.  Overall, it was neat little place, but not at all worth checking out after dark.

Death Field

All About It...

There really isn't much to say about this place.  There probably isn't anything, anywhere on the internet about it either. But, its the small amount of information on these places that make them interesting.  It's more of a local folklore sort of thing.  Actually, there could be something strange happening down at this place.  It is located in an old neighborhood near Dennison Avenue and the Jennings Freeway.  There is a decent size wooded area all throughout which is between the neighborhood itself and an industrial place for semi trailers and rock salt.  The strange thing to this place was, that it was a very dense wooded area for maybe a mile going across and a quarter mile (if that) wide. What made it interesting was, that out of all the woods, all of a sudden, you come to a giant open field right in the middle of them.  So whats so great about that? It is a fact that the area used to be a residental place many years ago (early 1980s I believe) and was torn down for some reason I don't know (The industrial lot or Jennings Freeway) But, that gives it a small feeling of abandonedness. The other strange thing was, as kids when we found this place, we found tons of animal bones and objects such as knifes, clothes, tires, and a small foundation.

Our Experience...

November 24th, 2004

Today was one of those days that we didn't feel like going anywhere far so we all agreed on doing a hunt on a local legend that my old friends and I knew about. It is know to us as Death Field. It got it's name about eight years ago when Gary and I were looking for snakes in the woods and we didn't get much. So, we decided to go farther and deeper into the woods then we ever had and then we came across the field. It was pretty amazing to find such a large field in the middle of the woods after walking for a long time. Although, there are houses up the hill, we still thought of it as only we knew about it. In the far back corner next to the hill up to the houses is a big concrete wall and what looked to be an old development. The reason we thought of it being unknown is the lack of vandalism. It is located in a pretty bad area and the local park is badly vandalized. There is hardly any glass or cans or anything. What spooked us about the place was the fact that we found two amputated deer legs in different parts of the field. We also came across an antler and a big butcher's knife. The knife and one of the legs was found near a large concrete block which we were unable to get to due to the steep incline and the dense prickers surrounding it now. Overall it was a well worth trip for two reasons and they have nothing to do with are hunts. According to Andy and Joe they fell about 15 times between the two of them and got soaked and Josh got completely covered with burs. It was a very funny trip if you ask me or Jarred.

Dennison Cemetery

All About It...

There really isn't anything special about this place.  It is just a very small cemetery that is sadly vandalized.

Our Experience...

November 13th, 2004

We do not know for sure if this place is haunted but it looked good to put on here. It is located off of a small one way street behind an Aldi's store. We don't know for sure if it has a name but it has several tombs with the name Denison on them and it is off set to Denison Ave. We did found many toppled tombstones and much vandalism occurred here. There isn't much to say about this place except that it is very small and vandalized.

The Factory

All About It...

In 1903, the City of Cleveland granted a franchise to the East Ohio Gas Company, a subsidiary of the Standard Oil Company, to provide natural gas to residences and businesses for lighting, heating and cooking.   In 1944, holding tank containing millions of gallons of liquid natural gas exploded.   More than one square mile of Cleveland’s east side was engulfed in flames in the area bounded by East 55 th Street, St. Clair Avenue, East 67 th Street and the Shoreway, creating the most disastrous fire in Cleveland’s history with 130 deaths and 79 homes and two factories destroyed. BUT, after doing some more research, I came across aerial photos of the area and seen that there is a clear shot of cars and a factory in the area where this is.  The photos were taken seven years ago, SO, this factory has nothing to do with the 1944 fire.

Our Experience...

December 18th, 2004

Today, finally, Andy and I went to the east side to check out the abandoned factory. This was probably the best and scariest hunt we have done so far. There are four main parts to the whole east side factory. The first, and most obvious is the overwhelming smoke chimney. The second is the tunnel located going into the hill. Third, is the generator building. And fourth is the empty brick building. The chimney did look to have and entrance but it was down in a ditch covered with rubble. The Tunnel was the best part of the hunt. Inside near the entrance were clothes and blankets as if somebody lived there. There was a newspaper that dated back to Wednesday the 15th. Once you got towards the middle of the Tunnel, all the stuff like clothes and bottles lessoned. About at the middle there was some type of machine that went up about 15 feet. After that machine there was no more glass or anything. Once you start to get closer to the end, the floor raises up and there is only about five feet from the floor to the bottom. Originally the roof is about seven feet up. At the end is nothing but sand and a sad skeleton of a cat. Also, along side the wall of the tunnel are hundreds of bricks that are in good shape. I would say the total length of the Tunnel is probably 400 feet. The thing I hated the most about it was that near the end a cat jumped out from the bricks and scared the crap out of me while Andy was already scared enough. Then came the Generator building. The entrance to this building was blocked off by chopped down trees, but I was able to crawl under them to get a look inside. Inside was nothing more than a lot of garbage and a massive machine which looked to be a generator or something. Finally, the building was unable to get to, due to the entrance was caved in. It didn't bother me because the last time I went there was nothing to look at in there anyway. Overall, the entire area was a very scary place.

Gore Orphanage

All About It...

There is so much to this place that you can find everywhere else. It is a nationally known haunted place, as mentioned in the book 'Weird US' So, I'll save some time and provide some good links about it right here,

Our Experience...

January 27th, 2006

Well today we finally went out west to Vermilion to see the legendary Gore Orphanage.  Now I'm sure everyone has heard of this place so I don't have to write the crap about it.  Anyway here is how our trip went.  It started off odd because when we got there another car load of people around 18 years old, showed up wanting to go too.  They had heard all the same stuff that we did and have never been there.  knowing that, we didn't have any clue where the actually stuff was so we headed past the road closed signs and down the path and there were two trails one going up to the right, and the other going down to the left.  We figured down to the left because we thought going deeper in the woods would make more sense.  So after going on for a little bit we came across the bridge.  I don't recall if this is a crybaby bridge but it sure was creepy.  After that we had no clud were to go.  The whole place is nothing but huge open fields and huge dense woods all around and right through it all was an old unused road.  We came across a small path going into the woods and so we decided to follow it.  Well, we didn't find anything of interset.  So after slipping in mud and getting pricked a lot the other group of people called it quits and left my group to go deeper in the woods.(They were scared obviously)  Well, we kept on going and came to the creek when our group was frightened by green eyes on the other side of the creek and sound of breaking sticks.  So after that the majority of the group wanted to go except for me and Johnny but we had to go.  So we walked across the field and back to the cars.  On the way back we stopped at Brownhelm Cemetary for a few pics, but nothing great.  Next time we hope to leave around 5 so we can get there with light instead of leaving at 11:00.

Our Experience...

October 30th, 2004

We just got back from Hemlock Road and got some very interesting pictures. First off we never found the Indian burial grounds after searching all night. We did come across a huge query that we found out was for the local factory nearby. The part of the road that is closed is only about a mile stretch and has a running creek around it. There is a small pond and many hills. There are stones from past developments all around and a badly vandalized bridge. We did meet some locals of the area, a couple and their dogs and asked them about the area. They gave us directions to the Indian burial ground and a shortcut out of there. Without them we might not of got as many good pictures. Well after hiking for awhile, we got to the spot the couple pointed out but didn't find anything of interest in the pictures. Overall, the place is worth going to and is a great spot to look for paranormal activity.

October 31st, 2004

Today Andy M. and I made a small exploration on the other side of Hemlock Road. We found an interesting gorge which had an old trail in it. The trail had to bridges which looked to be dams or sewage systems. The trail went through the woods then branched off in three directions. We took one way only for which we had limited time to do so. The trail soon ended and we went onward into the woods. We came across many rubble piles in the area. Overall, it is a very big place and we still didn't explore all of it yet. We hope to go again soon

Our Experience...

October 23, 2004

Finally I have went to this place with some friends, took some pictures, and came to a few conclusions. The first thing I have to say is that it is a very creepy and odd place for a cemetery. First you can't drive even close to it, you have to park and walk up a very big hill and then there are paths and trails leading in every direction. One of the trails leads to a cemetery with about 30 gravestones. All of the gravestones date back to the 1800's and some are illegible. With my luck there was a slight drizzle at the time and it interfered with my pictures. But I did go again the next time and took pictures of the same locations. There was a pond with a lot of lily pads and we came across an old hunters chair high up in a tree on the side of a hill. Overall we really didn't come across anything spectacular in the area. The pictures do show some weird things but you can clearly make out the difference between raindrops and orbs.

September 20, 2008

After almost four years, we finally came back to Tinkers, but this time, at night!  It was much more spookier than day, and even in the daytime it is spooky.  The entire walk up to the cemetery was creepy, seeing that even with flash lights, it was unbelievably dark.  Once atop the hill, there was a steady cloud of fog which gave it a really scary feeling, but at the same time pretty cool.  We inspected all the graves and took many pictures.  We hung around for a bit and walked all over trying to find or feel anything unusual, only to fail yet again.  But, it was a nice night and it was worth seeing the creepy fog over the cemetery.
